Indeed I have been experimenting with optical illusions design, and I have found, that our brain is extremely hard to fool. I did not design it, I have found it on the internet. I use J-Tech Photonics Laser Tool Inkscape plugin to generate g-code. In a meantime, I had to use a knife to clean up the cut. I have noticed, that my air pump is barely pumping any air (perhaps it was not designed to run for hours). Somehow my laser cutter is no longer cutting very well. For example we could use Inkscape to scale a 40x40mm piece to 40.5x40.5mm (this would allow for a 1mm cut assuming that the laser runs down the middle of each line). I watched a quick educational video, and then in one hour I came up with this: One possible solution to this problem is to scale your pieces to allow for the cutting. In a meantime, I decided to look at Inkscape. How do I round object intersections? maybe there is a way. But rounded corners? I can round corners of an objects. I can also rotate lines randomly in OpenSCad. Best for illustration : Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Inkscape. I can make one in OpenSCad in a few minutes. Speed and Power determine how the laser is cutting. It is easy to make one with vertical and horizontal intersecting lines.

INKSCAPE LASER CUTTING DRIVER
(Very Important because otherwise, the laser cutter driver will ignore the thicker contours!)

After this, another window will open which will give you a preview of the DXF to be saved. The following explanation is based on the free software Inkscape. An options pane will appear on the left side of the screen, so don't forget to click OK there in order to complete the save process. Export the 2D model in DXF format, by choosing DXF in the "Save as" window.Desing the 2D model in SolidWorks as a SolidWorks part file (not an assembly).

In this short tutorial, I will explain the method that I find to work best, which involved a combination of Solidworks and Inkscape.

On the other hand, there are the real CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Fusion 360, but they are often very bad at exporting the model in a Vector format which you can send directly to a laser cutter. Inksacpe laser cutting stands for setting up G code for the CNC or laser cutting machine for having cutting of your desired shapes, text, or any logo. However, those are not real CAD tools, because they lack many critical features that engineers are looking for - such as the ability to specify dimensions for more complicated nonstandard geometries. Some of the vector desing tools that come to mind are Inkscape (free and open source) and Adobe Illustrator.

When it comes to 2D CAD for laser cutting, there seems to be a real lack of software that is feature-rich and capable of exporting files in a format ready for laser cutters.
